At the peak of the Depression, however, national unemployment reached a high of 25% by 1933 and one third of New York City workers were unemployed. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that unemployment now hovers just under 8%, after reaching a high of 14.7 % in April 2020.
As has often been stated, the Covid 19 pandemic has yielded the worst economic situation since the Great Depression.
